Blue Acura RDX

The Acura RDX is a compact SUV that was first introduced in 2006. The RDX is notable for being Acura’s first compact SUV, as well as the first Acura model to feature turbocharged engine. Since its inception, the RDX has undergone several redesigns and is currently in its third generation. In this article, we’ll take a look at the history of the Acura RDX and some of the key changes it has undergone during its lifespan.

2006-2012 First Generation: The Original Trailblazer

The first generation RDX was introduced in 2006 as a 2007 model year. It featured a turbocharged 2.3L DOHC VTEC inline-four engine that produced 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This made the RDX the most powerful vehicle in its class at the time. All-wheel drive was standard on all models, as was a five-speed automatic transmission. In 2010, Acura debuted an A-Spec trim level for the first time which added sporty exterior and interior styling touches. Production of the first generation ended in 2012 when it was replaced by the second generation model.

2013-2018 Second Generation: Refined and Redesigned

The second generation model was introduced for the 2013 model year and featured an updated design both inside and out. One of the most notable changes was the addition of LED headlights, which gave the RDX a more modern look. Underneath the skin, the turbocharged engine from the previous generation carried over but power was increased to 279 hp. A six-speed automatic transmission also replaced the five-speed unit from before. The second generation model remained in production until 2018 when it made way for the current third generation model.

2019-Present Third Generation: The Best Yet?

The third generation RDX made its debut for the 2019 model year and featured an all-new design inside and out. The biggest change came under hood where a new 2.0L DOHC turbocharged inline-four engine replaced the larger V6 from before. This new engine produces 272 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, making it slightly less powerful than its predecessor but more fuel efficient. Along with the new engine came a 10-speed automatic transmission, which helps improve both performance and efficiency even further. With its mix of luxury, performance, and practicality, it’s easy to see why so many automotive shoppers have been impressed by what this latest RDX has to offer.
