What is AcuraWatch?

At Speedcraft Acura, we’re proud to feature AcuraWatch™, the exclusive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) offered as standard on every new Acura sedan and SUV. Serving drivers across Rhode Island, we believe safety through innovation is the key to confidence on the road. AcuraWatch™ is carefully designed to not only enhance situational awareness but also help avoid collisions or mitigate their severity when necessary.
Innovation Rooted in History
Did you know Acura pioneered automatic emergency braking technology? It all started with the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) first introduced in 2006 on the Acura RL. By detecting potential collisions and applying emergency braking when necessary, CMBS™ set the tone for an entire suite of advanced driver-assistive technologies.
Today, AcuraWatch™ includes more than just CMBS™. Leveraging cutting-edge “sensor fusion” technology, the system combines a millimeter-wave radar mounted behind the grille and a monocular camera at the windshield to keep you safe on Rhode Island’s roads.
What’s Included in AcuraWatch™?
AcuraWatch™ represents a technological bridge to the future of automated driving. The suite includes:
Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)
- Alerts for potential collisions with vehicles or pedestrians.
- Automatic emergency braking to help minimize impact.
- Integrated Forward Collision Warning (FCW) for early alerts.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
- Detects when your Acura is about to leave its lane.
- Provides steering assist and corrective braking to keep you on track.
- Customizable alerts with options for steering wheel vibration or audible warnings.
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
- Keeps your Acura centered within its lane, reducing driver fatigue on long drives.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF)
- Maintains your set speed while adjusting to traffic conditions.
- Stops and resumes control in stop-and-go traffic automatically.
Traffic Jam Assist (TJA)
- Provides light steering assistance in slow-moving, congested traffic conditions.
Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
- Detects speed limit signs and displays them on the instrument panel and Head-Up Display (in equipped models).
Driver Attention Monitor
- Monitors driver behavior for signs of fatigue.
- Provides alerts and recommendations for breaks when necessary.
Enhanced Features for 2024 Models and Beyond
Starting with the 2024 Acura TLX and 2025 MDX, AcuraWatch™ gains new, advanced hardware and features. A front single-lens camera now offers a 90-degree field of view (up from 50), while a grille-mounted millimeter-wave radar expands to a 120-degree field of view. These upgrades provide enhanced collision detection for better performance.
Highlights:
- Improved detection of vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, and traffic signs.
- Wider blind spot warning range on newer models with Lane Change Alert.
- New Adaptive Cruise Control with Cornering Speed Assist for the MDX lineup.
Safety with a Human Touch
While AcuraWatch™ is designed to make driving safer and less stressful, it’s important to remember these systems are meant to assist—not replace the driver. Staying attentive and in control of the vehicle is essential. Additionally, functions can be customized or turned off, giving you full control over your driving experience.
